Labour to fit panels
Labour per panel falls as the number of panels rises. Fence Installers, a firm in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, says it covers Milton Keynes and publishes its labour prices.

Working out a total
Add the materials to the labour. For one 6-foot lap panel between sound posts, that is the panel plus about £96 of labour from the firm above.
A broken post costs more than a panel. The old concrete must come out, and the new post needs fresh concrete. Fence Installers allows 1.5 bags of quick-set concrete per bay, at £7.50 a bag.

Height rules
Swapping a panel for one of the same height rarely needs an application. Permitted development allows 2 metres, or 1 metre next to a road with traffic. Listing, Article 4 directions and planning conditions are the exceptions.
